Father, 49, remanded for defiling 14-year-old daughter

A 49-year-old unemployed man, Mr Kayode Oni, was yesterday arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iwo- Road, Oyo State capital, for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.
The plea of the accused person who was arraigned on a one-court charge of having carnal knowledge (rape) of his daughter in the charge marked: Mi/264c/2019, was, however, not taken.
The prosecutor, Mr Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that the accused in 2018 at No.4 Obamomo G.R A. Quarters Iyaganku, Ibadan had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 14-year-old daughter (names withheld) without her consent.
The offence according to him was contrary to and punishable under Section 34 Subsection 1 and 2 of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State Nigeria, 2006.
While interrogating the accused, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Olaniran, asked him why he defiled his own biological daughter, wondering whether it was for ritual purpose.
In his response, Oni, however, told the court that it was a mistake and that it was the work of the devil carried out through him. He explained that he had been separated with his daughter’s mother when she (victim) was just eight years old, confessing that he had been defiling her since then.
In his remarks, the magistrate berated those involved in the act of sexually abusing under-aged children, noting that they were allowing devil to use them to destroy the society...
